The group managed to lay the spirits of Feldgrau to rest. Other than a small mishap with some fey in the night everyone managed to get enough rest to recoup for the travel ahead.

Updates/recaps

With another wolf in tow the group buried the sczarni that fell during the battle with Vrood. There was a cryptic set of notes and an strange almost prophetic sounding poem found in Vrood’s belongings. No one has yet to decipher the notes but the poem read as follows.

Upon the ashen pathways tread
Softly, as the whispered dead.
As mortal flesh doth rot and fail
To leech and maggot, ebbing frail.
Unhallowed words cannot be spoken,
With whispered oath, death lies broken.
Shed fear, shed life, shed pain, shed time,
Eternity seized shall soon be thine.
First spirit torn from Grave-Lady’s grasp
Be rent and sown as soured ash.
Soft the spiral song reverses,
Judgment lost, damnation surges.
Keeper of the damned’s soul take,
With packlord’s heart the beast shall wake
And flesh be wrought in disarray—
Stillborn cocoon, to blessed decay.
A hundred slain lie innocent,
Grind bone and marrow to cement.
Craft now a skull of splintered graves,
Unmake life, unmake the slave.
Where history churns dream to blister,
Necrophagous secrets whisper
Through chronicles of Raven’s tongue—
A legacy of fear unspun.
Blood spilt atop the Iron Thorn
Invokes that which cannot be born.
Arise the Tyrant now unbound,
Bearer of the Carrion Crown!

Jik put forth his intent to take the remaining corpses of the war victims that have been disturbed by the Whispering Way and return them to their grave, finally giving them a proper service, the party agreed and then realized how many there really are. This may take awhile.

The head of Vrood was given to Ulcris, who then performed a short ritual that allowed everyone to see through the eyes of the Whispering Way agent. The visions came in flashes showing a furiously darting ink quill that dashed out of a stream of words reading, “My Master, I shall stay in Feldgrau and build an army of corpses for our risen lord…” The sentence faded, and after a brief flash, hands place the letter in an envelope and struck it with a wax seal. Another flash comes and the scene changed. You all saw cultists scurrying around in the town square, exhuming bodies and raising an army from the corpses of Feldgrau’s dead. After another flash, Vrood’s hands placed three strange items into a chest— an iron-and-glass vial containing a swirling gray mist, a bloody piece of heart inside a glass bottle, and a fragile skull composed of hundreds of bone fragments. Into a second chest he placed a strange statuette of murky green stone depicting a grotesque, tentacled creature. Another flash. The chests were given to two riders in dark cloaks on pale horses. “Ride to Thrushmoor,” you heard Vrood say. “Our agent will exchange the Effigy for the relic we need.” After a final flash, the visions faded.

Rhakis was notified about his fallen companions, Kendra was able to update the party on her whereabouts and the failed attempt to capture Vorkstag in Karcau.

Victory!
Updates/recaps

The party badly hampered due to the unfortunate effects of the vile hands Usas, Niri and Aegeth were able to bring the heat to Auren Vrood causing him to flee, vowing to spit their hearts upon the Gallowspire. He did not go far however and continued to cast from afar while invisible while the skeletons at the top of the tower came down to join the fight.

Jik was dog piled and then Niri while Dolgin struggled with the last remaining hand, Usas managed to give it it’s final push into oblivion. Teamwork with Jik and Usas managed to reveal Vrood where everyone let loose with arrows and magic overpowering him.

Upon hitting the ground his body began to convulse and froth at the mouth, his eyes turned blood red and shortly after his lower jaw dissolved into nothingness.

While the party tried to assess injuries and go over anything useful that Vrood may have had on his person Nightstorm wandered over to the far end of the hall and gave a low whine. Vrood had been busy……

Wight out conditions.....
Updates/recaps

The party successful with the overtaking of the town square agreed to move onto the armory next. Jik was able to ascertain there were 9 undead wights waiting within and after a few fearful moments they were dispatched accordingly with his protection against the life energy draining effects and the wolves assistance on thinning out their numbers.

Upon inspection there was a magical belt of giant strength on the leader of the wights and a clay jar containing marvelous pigments that can make any mundane thing created with them appear into reality. In addition to these magical findings the group located what remained of previous pack leader Kvalca Sain, a portion of her heart was floating in some foul embalming fluid. Jik was able to retrieve it and purify it so it may assist the Prince’s Wolves in their attempt to soothe the chaos that the Whispering Way left behind in the Shudderwood and after first trying to ransom the heart back to the Sczarni and then flat out accusing them of being craven in removing themselves to return the heart to the wood Birelli, Fell and Fifika stayed with the party while the half Kellid Donani, Lumas and Lasho all transformed into wolf form and ran back the way they had come with the gruesome trophy.

The tower being all that stands between the group and the vile necromancer that had come to drag the victims of the War without Rivals from what little rest they could have and enslave them, Usas borrowed Nirinara’s ring of invisibility to scout out the top of the ruins, she was able to get the general lay of what remained of the uppermost level of the tower and found 8 skeletal champion archers waiting to pepper anyone who entered the building and passed below with arrows. While trying to decide on the best course of action upon returning, quiet little Aegeth took it upon herself to draw her bow, knock an arrow and let it loose up over the remaining stone masonary to the tower, upon impact a frothy white mist began rolling over the rocky face from within, ensuring the party would not need worry about being seen by the ambush waiting to greet them.

The door proved a most impressive barrier, the years and war met it head on and still it stayed true, the group however managed to work together to force it open. The darkness inside however held other horrors. Upon entering and removing a makeshift blanket wall Dolgin was beset upon by a small army of animated corpse hands. Their putrid flesh was too much to withstand after an attempt to dispatch them, the resulting spray of putrid fluid was enough to leave him gagging for a few moments, giving them the upper hand, forgive the unintentional pun, where they grappled not only him but Jik as well. Niri was able to avoid being hit by their corruption but Jushyn in an attempt to get the abomination off of the healer was hit soundly, suffering the full effects and being unable to do more than try to not vomit on his companions.

The hands were not the only threat lurking however, a dark cloaked figure emerged into view. His pallid skin, bone breastplate and staff capped with a gagged skull mark him easily as the one you sought in coming here. This was no consolation however as his first greeting to you was nothing more than to unleash his murderous intent. He let free a cloud of pure poison, obscuring the view of those that were caught in its path and inflicting damage and death to those it touched, the Prince’s Wolves hit the ground, those closest to them can see no life left in their eyes, their bodies reverting to their human forms to walk these lands no more.

(Re)Kill it with FIRE
Updates/recaps

The group met back up with the Prince’s Wolves and found that the army that had been amassing outside of the tower had tripled in size from what was spotted via the Mill the day before. Faced with the knowledge that Auren Vrood lies in the tower and the heart of Kvalca Sain, previous packlord of the wolves in the Shudderwood, is being held in the armory abutting everyone decided to just make a full frontal assault.

Ice, fire and a raining of arrows later you have a swath of corpses laying at your feet and two more clerics of Urgathoa are sent off to face their final judgement.

Unexpected visitors
Updates/recaps

After defeating the Jezeldan pack leader, Jik, Jushyn, Usas, Niri, Nasta and Nightstorm headed back towards the wagon with their loot and the Sczarni in hand.

Smoke and fire…..

Thankfully the fire was the cooking kind. The abandoned farm was occupied with the third set of squatters in a long time. An quiet and cautious elven archer named Aegeth and a gruff dwarven blacksmith that are in search of the Seasage Effigy. They have proved more than adequate in the heat of battle as re-entering Feldgrau was eventful, a trio of large boil covered undead abominations met the party led by a Whispering Way member.

And to top it all off Jushyn betrayed the Prince’s Wolves by disclosing their true nature to the strangers.

Two survivors.....
Updates/recaps

Two survived when Neska’s troops passed through the town of Feldgrau. Ulcris Sedimir, the Inn Keep that gave them lodging who hid himself when he realized what his nights guests were doing to the innocents and Auren Vrood, an eight year old boy that had been trapped under a pile of corpses in the slaughter and survived to return eighteen years later.

Ulcris seeks redemption, and has told the group that since Auren Vrood has a connection to the area he will be able to harvest his memories to assist them, if they can bring him his head.

The battle against Adimarus proved no match for the group, between Usas’s information on how to deal with infernal corrupted beings, Nirinara’s skill with stealth and hitting one where it hurts, Jushyn’s skill with his bow and the growing power of the Pharasmin childlike Priest, he barely got more than a swipe in before he fell.

Now if the Prince’s Wolves hold up their agreement to assist in clearing out the necromancers, the spirits of Feldgrau may find peace at long last.

Fel: “You smell good.”
Jushyn: “I’m not sure if you are hitting on me or want to eat me.”

Marching towards the Mill
Updates/recaps

After discussing the options and possibilities in the area, the group has decided that they need to march onto the Mill, where Adimarus is thought to be holed up, immediately. The group ran into two patrols of undead on the way, one was a small well armored regimen of skeletons and the second was a smaller one, led by another cleric of Urgathoa. So far no sign of actual necromancers, but the goddess of undeath definitely has her cold claws dug into this land.

Jik is still deafened but seems to be harnessing even more healing power faster than ever, it should come in handy in the battles ahead. Usas has proven to be as devastating as Niri and Jushyn with her spells, I think everyone can be thankful the elf is on their side in this war.

As it stands, the party is right outside the old provisioners/inn, where the Prince’s Wolves have warned you there is a ghost that hangs himself over and over and if you allow him to finish he is not…..happy. Everyone decided to not enter, you are very close to the Mill itself, hope the heightened senses of the wolves haven’t been alerted to the most recent battle and the smell of all that fresh blood……….

A Pallid welcome.
Updates/recaps

Duristan lives. He has told the party he hired a team of 6 mercenaries after his men were slaughtered and tracked the Demon wolves to Feldgrau, hunting them for vengeance. He asked that the party come with him but no one was willing to join forces.

During exploration of the buildings in the area there was a haunt that did little but make some eerie audible footfalls. It didn’t prove to be of much concern to the party, the dozen flaming skeletons led by a cleric of the Pallid Princess, Urgathoa, did seem to cause some issue. However the party felt after that encounter, Jik was not hearing it.

The Prince’s Wolves were found holed up in one of the abandoned buildings. Jushyn managed to tell them that the people they tracked there were there and why…….they in turn gave some info on what was going on in the area after Jik offered to heal an injury that the smallest of their group had suffered.
